چکیده

Today, systems of equations with more than one million unknowns need to be solved. To solve such systems in a reasonable time requires the use of powerful parallel computers. The European project PARASOL aimed to design and develop a library of scalable sparse matrix solvers for distributed memory computers. Parallab was a partner in the project and developed the domain decomposition solver DD. Although the PARASOL project finished in June 1999, Parallab has continued the development of the DD solver. We report on the present status of the parallel solver and show its performance on some challenging industrial problems.

Domain decomposition solvers for nonlinear multiharmonic finite element equations

In many practical applications, for instance, in computational electromagnetics, the excitation is time-harmonic. Switching from the time domain to the frequency domain allows us to replace the expensive time-integration procedure by the solution of a simple elliptic equation for the amplitude. This is true for linear problems, but not for nonlinear problems. However, due to the periodicity of ...

Robust FETI solvers for multiscale elliptic PDEs

Finite element tearing and interconnecting (FETI) methods are efficient parallel domain decomposition solvers for large-scale finite element equations. In this work we investigate the robustness of FETI methods in case of highly heterogeneous (multiscale) coefficients. Our main application are magnetic field computations where both large jumps and large variation in the reluctivity coefficient ...

Analysis of a coupled finite-infinite element method for exterior Helmholtz problems

Coupled finite-infinite element computations are very efficient for modeling large scale acoustics problems. Parallel algorithms, like sub-structuring and domain decomposition methods, have shown to be very efficient for solving huge linear systems arising from acoustics. In this paper, a coupled finite-infinite element method is described, formulated and analyzed for parallel computations purp...

Non-intrusive coupling: an attempt to merge industrial and research software capabilities

In computational mechanics, it is often difficult to test research innovations on industrial problems because of software limitations: many of the commercial finite element packages commonly used in the industry lack flexibility and openness, whereas in-house research developments are usually very specific and may lack features required for “real-life” industrial simulations. Non-intrusive coup...
